I Tattooed My Calf To Raise Funds For Childhood Cancer Research!

Thank you so much for your encouragement, support and generous donation for this year's NetApp Singapore - St. Baldrick’s Foundation fund raising event. You helped me raise over US$47,000 and collectively as team NetApp Singapore, we raised US$140,000 for childhood cancer research.

The logistics to arrange the tattooing during the event was challenging. Not surprisingly, the folks at Harry's Bar did not allow the act to be performed on their premises on grounds of licensing and health consideration. So Plan B was to set up Skype Video between Johnny Two Thumb Tattoo Studio and Harry's Bar.

However, as with most live telecasts and considering our amateur set-up, issues like internet bandwidth and system compatibility cropped up. However, we managed to work around the issues and beamed the live video images to the packed event where my colleagues had their hairs shaved.

All in all, a fantastic event for an important cause. Thanks again for your support!

I am Raising Funds for Childhood Cancer Research

Every year, hundreds of thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, founded in 2000, raises money through the world’s largest fundraising event for childhood cancer research.

Last year, NetApp organised the inaugural St. Baldrick’s event in Singapore and 9 NetApp volunteers shaved their head and raised over US$80,000.

This year, the Foundation has teamed up with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore. This means that our contribution for the upcoming NetApp Singapore St. Baldrick’s event, as well as proceeds from last year’s effort, will go towards funding cancer research for children in Singapore.

I was one of the “shavees” last year. Amazingly, I liked the "after" look and have kept my head relatively bald since then. I guess shaving whatever that's left on my head to raise funds this year might not be such an interesting thing to do. Thus, I thought I would do something a little crazy in the hope of raising much needed funds for childhood cancer research.

So, I aim to raise US$20,000 by getting a permanent tattoo of the St. Baldrick's logo inked on my body during the event starting 6 pm on 24 March at Harry's @ Millenia, 9 Raffles Boulevard, #01-75A, Millenia Walk, Singapore.

Please support me and the Foundation, and donate generously on-line here before 24 March.

Thank you in advance.
