Singapore Bike Hash Ride 418 @ Pulau Ubin

Mike Maxwell, David Lucas and I organised our second rendition of the Pulau Ubin Singapore Bike Hash. This time, we introduced a few new trails and avoided the Ketam mountainbike track. We were blessed with perfect weather and trail conditions.

From the Grand Master himself:

"Pulau Ubin never disappoints and Ride 418 was no different. Starting from the traditional basketball court (... well apart from the fact it is no longer a basketball court and in fact all fenced up!) our hares led us on a merry trail all over Ubin. Strangely enough we completely bypassed the mountainbike trail which made a nice change and ended up in the north west corner on the edge of the Outward Bound School (more commonly known as the out of bounds school as you are not allowed to ride there!).

From here we looped east on to some very nice trails and I have to say a very unexpected drinks stop. In the middle of nowhere an entrepreneur has set up stools and table under a shady tree selling a selection of ice cold drinks and fresh coconuts – extremely civilized – the only problem is that we will want this type of service on every ride? (a groan goes up from the hare line).

The trail then led round the eastern end of the island with a number of big climbs before a mad dash for the end and the ever welcoming 100 Plus. The circle turned out to a rather jovial affair with the return of the Grand Master from injury it was back to good old bike circles of old.

Certainly the crowd was not disappointed with more hash naming on the day than in the previous six months! Particular note should be made of Mike ‘Time’ Maxwell who sneaked his wife Laura on to the ride (her first ride at that) only for her to be christened ‘Downward Dog’ – don’t ask – it’s more than the imagination can bear!

With the On On at the famous – in hash circles anyway – First Ubin restaurant it was another classic and hugely successful bike hash. Well done those hares."
