Mountain Biking in Hawaii

I had the privilege of participating in my company's event in Lanai and took the opportunity to ride around the island, and also in Maui where I rented a brand new Giant Trance mountain bike.

Lanai is amazing, it is owned by a single person (David Murdock), population around 3,000 and not a single traffic light on the island. The trails were mainly 4WD dirt roads, not technical but flowy in the down slope with some loose sand and sharp lava rocks.

I started after breakfast from the resort at Koele to the Munro Trail, mainly uphill with stunning views and rewarded at the end with a fast and smooth down hill section to Manele Bay. Had lunch for an hour and headed to Kaunolu, all downhill and fast. But the climb back up was really rough and tough.

I ended back at Koele at 4.30 pm, total ride distance was over 40 km.

The next ride was much easier, up north west to Polihua beach via the Garden of the Gods, although it was very windy along some stretches.
